The Morgan State Lady Bears had their chances on Sunday evening.
All Morgan State had to do was beat the Hampton Lady Pirates in three or at worst, four games in order to win the tiebreaker and advance to the MEAC Volleyball Tournament.
Instead, the Lady Bears did what they had done all season long which was waste big opportunities in their 16-25, 16-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-7 loss.

Even though the Morgan State Lady Bears are struggling this season, they still seem to treat the Coppin State volleyball team like their personal punching bags. There had to be a hidden 11th commandment for the Bears which probably said, “Thou shalt not lose to Coppin in a volleyball match.”
Though the Lady Eagles had their bright spots, they didn’t get it done again as they fell to Morgan State for the 42nd consecutive time 25-11, 25-22, 25-17 at Hill Field House. It’s been 18 years since a Coppin squad has beaten Morgan on the volleyball court.

“Morgan is a good team, but I believed that we could’ve beaten them.”
Coppin State Lady Eagles head coach Romonzo Beans said this after the game. The young, struggling Morgan State Lady Bears came into the Coppin Center and Coppin realized that their best opportunity to finally knock them off was in existence. But the Lady Eagles continually found ways to hurt themselves in a 25-21, 25-20, 26-24 loss.

The Lady Bears had their chances in the fourth game, but the Howard Lady Bison couldn’t be denied at Hill Field House. Howard overcame a 24-21 deficit in the fourth game to finish off the Morgan State Lady Bears 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 26-24). This was Howard’s first victory over Morgan State since 1996 when Howard beat the Lady Bears in four games; a period of 25 matches.
