Wednesday's games
Pitchers' duel in Atholton/Hammond matchup
Freshman Haylie Goheen pitched Atholton to an eight inning 1-0 win over previously undefeated defending county and 2A state champion Hammond (10-1) on Wednesday. Both pitchers gave up just one hit. The winning run came on a fielder's choice bunt. A pinch runner, Sam Keeter, entered the game at second base and stole 3rd. She came out ahead in a collision at the plate. Goheen walked just one and struck out 14. Her opposite number, Stephanie Speierman, struck out 17 walked two and surrendered one hit.
