Highly touted transfer Gus Gilchrist has decided to transfer from the University of Maryland, citing his ineligibility till the second semester of the 2008-2009 season as the primary reason for his transfer. Gilchrist signed a National Letter of Intent with Virginia Tech during his junior year at Friendly High School, but was eventually granted his release from it by Hokies coach Seth Greenberg following the on-campus shootings at Tech. He reopened his recruitment and received attention from Georgetown, Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky, before he signed with Maryland.

Gilchrist was rated the No. 55 best player in the Class of 2007 and was touted as a piece of the process to replace departed seniors James Gist and Bambale Osby in the frontcourt. Reports from Terps' practices said he was one of the most impressive players on the court and his arrival had been looked forward to by the Terps' faithful.

Gilchrist will begin the process of selecting another school where he can have four years of eligibility this summer, beginning with campus visits and eventually an enrollment at his third college in two years.

In other Terps news, top-50 recruit Sean Mosley is not yet academically eligible, according to Mosley's father Richard Mosley. Great news for the Terps..
