The Redskins traded their first round pick to the Atlanta Falcons for two second round picks, 34th and 48th, and also acquired a fourth round pick. With the 34th pick they selected Devin Thomas who had been pegged by many as a mid-first round talent. Thomas has all the physical tools. He is 6" 1' 216 pounds with 4.40 speed. He is also an excellent return man. The big question mark with him is that he only has big season at the Division I college level. Also, he needs to work on his blocking and route running.
With their second second round pick, the Washington Redskins selected TE Fred Davis. Davis is described as really athletic and a good pass catcher. The downside is that his size, 6" 2' 250, is just average for a TE and he does not stretch the field. He tries hard at blocking, but is inadequate.
The Redskins used their third second round pick, this one being the teams original pick, on another Wide Receiver: Malcolm Kelly from Oklahoma. Kelly is more of a marginal talent with good size but is very slow and lacks explosiveness with a 4.68 forty time. He didn't work out at the Scouting Combine or the Sooners' Pro Day due to a quadriceps injury. There are also concerns about both of his knees. This pick seems like a bit of a reach, although if used correctly he could be a plus as a possession receiver.
