Ravens Quarterback Steve McNair has announced his retirement today after 13 seasons in the NFL, 11 with the Oilers/Titans and 2 with the Ravens. "It was a difficult decision, in your mind you feel like you can compete, but the battle between your mind and body is not going to work in the NFL." When asked about his career Steve Quoted, "I wouldn't Change a thing!"
Steve walked into Ozzy Newsome's office looked him in the eye and said, "Mentally I could do this for 3 more years, but physically I can't do this anymore." Steve's decision was after his workout yesterday. Steve made his announcement in the locker room in front of the team today, and they gave him a standing ovation.
When asked about John Harbaugh, Steve said, "His ideas and what he'll bring to this team are fantastic." Steve's decision had nothing to do with the coaching change, and said it was a great ride in Baltimore and the love in this building is unbelievable.
In Steve's Career he threw for 31,304 Yards and 174 TD passes. He also rushed for 3,590 yards and 37 TDs. Steve's career was highlighted by a trip to the 2000 Super Bowl, a 2003 co-MVP, 4 Pro Bowl appearances, and a 2006/2007 AFC North Title.
The Ravens must now look towards the future. When asked about the draft Ozzie Newsome stated, "This does not change our plans and will not impact the draft." The Ravens currently have Kyle Boller and Troy Smith on the roster. At the #8 pick, many experts are predicting that Boston College QB Matt Ryan will be available. Ozzie also said that he probably missed 20 Calls from teams and agents while the press conference was going on, and will not focus on anything till after the NFL Draft.
The John Harbaugh Era may now begin!
