In a highly intense Baltimore County matchup the Millers of Milford Mill used some clutch defense to thwart a late rally by the Parkville Knights and remain unbeaten in County play. After trailing by 7 with less than a minute to play the Knights got a three pointer from Denzel Walker to cut the lead to 66-62 and the Millers Isaiah McCray was at the foul line awaiting two shots. McCray missed both shots and Walker, who already had 8 points in the quarter, had the ball in his hands. He drove hard to the basket in an attempt to make it a one possession game, but McCray made up for his missed free throws by blocking Walkers shot and getting the ball to Jimmy Hamilton who threw a long outlet pass to a wide open Anthony Goode for the knockout dunk. McCray then stole the inbounds pass and finished things off with a dunk of his own to give the Millers an impressive 70-62 victory.
Milford Mill used a very balanced scoring attack as 5 players finished in double figures with McCray(17 pts) and Goode(16pts) leading the way. Troy Branch provided a long range spark off the bench, connecting on three 3 pointers and scoring 15 points.
The Knights backcourt led the way as Walker and Willie Kee each scored 15 points and James Milton provided the inside strength scoring 11 points and hauling in 13 rebounds.
The first half was extremely tight as the two teams were tied at 13 after the first quarter and Milford grabbed a small 3 point lead at the half at 33-30. The largest lead by either team in the half was 6 points and Parkville actually led 28-27 late in the half before Branch hit back to back threes to give the Millers a lead they would never relinquish.
The first four minutes of the 3rd quarter was when Milford took control as they outscored the Knights 10-1, behind 5 points from Goode, to grab the largest lead of the evening at 43-31. Parkville cut the lead to 7 but the Millers responded as Tevin Hanner had an electrifying baseline dunk and Branch connected on another three to put the lead back at 12. Milford maintained a steady lead of 7-12 points throughout until the Knights made a run with 4 minutes left in the game. Down by 7 Lakeem Duncan came up with a steal and a layup to get the Knights within 5 at 61-56. He was fouled on the play but missed the free throw. After a defensive stop Duncan scored again inside to cut the lead to 3 but Hamilton stepped up with a basket and a blocked shot on Milton to lead us to those final frantic seconds.
