The Missouri Tigers clawed and scratched till the end, but their run was ended by the Connecticut Huskies in the West Region final 78-52. Baltimore Freshman Kim English (Randallstown) Recorded 2 Rebounds for the Tigers. Kim averaged 9 points per game in the Tournament, and averaged 6.5 PPG on the season. The Tigers graduate 3 Starters, so Look for Kim to become a focal point of Missouri's offense in the future.
Villanova pulled out a thrilling victory over Pitt 78-76 in the East Region Final. Silver Spring Senior Dante Cunningham (Potomac) was right in the middle of the action on Scottie Reynolds last seconds layup. He made the jump pass at mid court the freed up Reynolds. Cunningham finished with 14 points, 5 Rebounds, 2 assists and a steal for the Cats. Dwayne Anderson (St. John's) also had a huge Regional Final. Dwayne had 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals for Villanova. Largo Freshman Maurice Sutton did not record any minutes for the Cats.
The most impressive team in the tournament has been North Carolina, and their most impressive player has been Clinton's Ty Lawson (Bishop McNamara). Ty scored 19 points, with 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and a block in UNC's convincing 72-69 South Region Championship Victory. Ty is averaging 23.3 PPG, 6.7 APG, and 2 Steals PG in his 3 NCAA tournament games.
The final four is in Detroit, where home team Michigan State will face Connecticut, and UNC and Villanova will collide.
