Locals in the Sweet 16

The #1 seed in the East, Pittsburgh needed some last minute heroics from Levance Fields to get past #4 seeded Xavier 60-55. Senior Sam Young (Friendly) led the Panthers in scoring with 19 while grabbing 3 rebounds. Junior Jermaine Dixon (Blake) had 4 points and 3 rebounds for the Panthers.

The #3 seeded Missouri Tigers fast paced attack put it to the #2 seeded Memphis Tigers 102-91 in the West Region. Freshman Kim English (Randallstown) scored 6 points for Missouri, all from the free throw line, and he also dished out 2 assists.

In the East Region, the #3 seeded Villanova Wildcats continue to roll. They take down the red hot #2 seed Duke Blue Devils 77-54. Senior Dante Cunningham (Potomac) had another big game. Dante recorded another double double with his 14 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Dwayne Anderson (St. John's) had 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists for the Wildcats.

Syracuse's South Region run came to an end when they ran into the Oklahoma "Griffins". The #3 seed Syracuse fell to the #2 seeded Oklahoma 84-71. Lahnam native Ornize Onuaku (Junior) had 7 points and 6 rebounds for the Orange.

The UNC Tar Heels have that edge back because of the return of Clinton Native Ty Lawson. The #1 seed in the South cruised past #4 seeded Gonzaga 98-77. Lawson (Bishop McNamara) had 17 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds, and a steal for the heels. He was also 3-4 from the 3 point stripe.
