Local Preps in College: Week 1

This is a new weekly feature updating the successful alumni of this great area in College Football. Let us know if we are missing any of your favorite players.
Local Terps: Recap
Davin Meggett, Maryland, Surrattsville: It is hard to Imagine a better first month of College Football for Surrattsville’s Davin Meggett. Davin was an under the radar recruits with just one major Division I offer. He is already starting to prove everybody wrong. Davin, just a true Freshman, emerged in camp as the the Maryland Terrapins #2 Running Back behind Derrell Scott, and we all know the Fridge likes to use two backs.
In his first game on Saturday vs. Delaware, he rushed for a 14 yd TD, and totaled 54 yards on 7 carries. Davin is a big back with great speed, look for more great things to come!
Darrius Heyward-Bey, Maryland, McDonogh: Darrius Heyward-Bey and 4.24 speed is on a mission to prove he is one of the best weapons in College Football. The Terp began his Junior Year with 70 yards receiving on 4 receptions, and was highlighted by a 12 yard TD run. He also had another carry for 8 yards.
There is no Question that Darrius is a major talent, the Question is; is there a QB that can get him the ball? Yes, that guy is Chris Turner!
Other Terps:
-Poly Sophomore WR Laquan Williams caught 2 balls for 19 yards
-Old Mill Senior DB Kevin Barnes recorded an interception, and 3 tackles
-Joppatowne Senior Defensive Lineman Jeremy Navarre had 6 Tackles
Local Nittany Lions: Recap
Derrick Williams, Penn State, Roosevelt: Former #1 Recruit in the nation and Roosevelt star Derrick Williams is looking to have a great Senior year to Propel his NFL Status. He did a good job! He had an 89 Yard Kickoff Return TD, and caught 2 balls for 45 yards. He also had 11 rushing yards, giving him 165 total yards vs. Coastal Carolina.
Aaron Maybin, Penn State, Mt. Hebron: The Defensive End got his sophomore year off to a great start! He recorded two sacks, a pass break up, and 5 total tacles. The sky is the limit for this kid!
AJ Wallace, Penn State, McDonough: The Junior CB, had a 35 Yard Kickoff Return, and recorded 2 tackles.
Towson Tigers: Recap
Sean Schaefer, Towson, Northern: Entering his Senior year as the active passing leader in IAA football, Sean put up a solid effort against Navy, Towson’s first every DI opponent. He added another 330 yards to his career total on 29-47 passing vs. The Midshipmen. Sean Completed TD passes to Marcus Lee and Casey Cegles.
Other Tigers:
-Alex Butt, Hereford, So, LB: Alex recorded 7 tackles in his first career start
-Marcus Lee, St. John’s, SR.,WR: Marcus extended his consecutive game reception streak to 34 games, every game of his career, with a 2 yard TD Reception.
-Tommy Breaux, Randallstown, Sr., WR: The 6’9” two sports athlete caught 4 balls for 42 yards. Could be a novelty type player at the next level!
Other Alumni:
Ben Tate, Auburn, Snow Hill: The Junior RB is off and running. Ben ran for 115 yards on 13 carries vs. Louisiana Monroe; and average of 8.8 yards per carrie. Auburn won 34-0.
Andrew Robinson, Syracuse, Calvert Hall: In a 30-10 loss to Northwestern, Jr. QB Andrew Robinson completed 14-28 passes for 103 yards and an interception.
Pat Lazear, WVU, Wheaton: The Sophomore LB got his season off the a great start by recording 7 tackles against in a 48-21 victory over Villanova, tied for second on the team.
