The Ravens will take on the St Louis Rams tonight at 8pm at the Edward Jones Dome in St Louis. Tonights game key for the Ravens, who have not looked impressive this preseason. The third preseason game is widely considered to be the "most important" preseason game because the starters usually play the longest. This game is a great barometer for the Ravens who are going against a god awful Rams team. Here are some important things to watch to in this game:

1. Will Troy Smith distance himself from Boller?

Troy Smith was named the starter for this game leading many to believe that he will be the starter for the season opener on September 7th. Smith has been awful in the passing game this preseason and looks to improve on that in this game. Many experts and fans believe that the quarterback job is Troy's to lose, however I believe that the gap between him and Kyle Boller is still very tight. It is no secret that Smith has the support of his team in and out of the huddle, something that Kyle Boller lacks. Coach Harbaugh said that Smith will play as long as needed to give the coaching staff a good look at him and it looks like Smith will play 3 quarters. If Troy Smith has a bad outing and does not show an improvement in the passing game and shows a lack of leadership, he could play his way out of the starting job. I believe that Troy Smith will play well enough to make him the starter come week 1 against Cincinati.

2. Will Cam Cameron finally open up the offense?

Cam Cameron is known throughout football for having an extensive playbook, however he has not shown that so far this preseason. The offense in the preseason has been very bland and resembles our offense from last season. Kyle Boller completed 8 passes in the last game for 40 yards and did not even look for a receiver over 10 yards down the field. Troy Smith told reporters that Cameron is only giving the quarterbacks plays that they can "handle". It seems that the quarterbacks are not grasping Cameron's offense and it will be interesting to see his play calling in this game. The preseason is supposed to be the time where you try new things on offense so you can see what works and what doesn't, however, Cameron has taken a different approach with this offense. In order to run the offense successfully, the quarterbacks need to run the full offense in game situations in the preseason where mistakes made are a lot less costly then in the regular season. Joe Flacco has the most talent of all of the quarterback but the starter for this team is going be the quarterback that grasps the system the best. With Troy Smith likely to play 3 quarters, and the major of the skill position starters healthy, I think Cameron will give Smith a chance to open up the offense and see if he can handle it.

3. What impact will Terrell Suggs have?

The main key for if this defense will be successful is if T- Sizzle reverts back to his form from 2006 and not 2007. Suggs held out all of training camp with contract issues and will see limited time tonight. Suggs was working out and training and knows Rex Ryan's scheems and plays. Suggs was awful last year recording a career low in sacks. With a healthy Trevor Pryce on his opposite side, Suggs will see less double teams and should see his sack numbers increase tremendously. Suggs is looking to prove that last season was a fluke and that he is worth the money he asked for. If Terrell Suggs reverts back to his old self and I believe he will, this Ravens defense will once again be a top 5 defense and could carry this team to a winning season.

These are my opinions and feel free to dispute them. You can listen to me every Monday night from 8-10pm following the Ray Lewis show on the SportsMaryland.com showcase on ESPN Radio
