TULANE SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER FROM TOWSON

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Freshman righthander Alex Byo pitched six innings of six-hit ball to lead Tulane University (9-6) to a 9-3 victory in the second game and a doubleheader sweep over Towson University (1-13) at Greer Field on Saturday afternoon. The Green Wave won the opener, 10-5.

ARLINGTON, Va.—The UMBC baseball team rallied down three in the eighth inning, but a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth allowed George Washington to down the Retrievers, 9-7, in Arlington, Va. on Tuesday afternoon.

Down 7-4 going into the eighth, UMBC (0-4) sophomore Justin Lamborn (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnett Valley) walked before a fellow sophomore Michael Pesci (Parsippany, N.J./DePaul Catholic) single. Freshman Aaron Brill (Palm Beach, Fla./John I. Leonard) walked to load the bases and junior Casey Medairy (Elkridge, Md./Howard) walked to score Lamborn.

Baseball: UMBC Baseball Falls to Yale, 10-4

BALTIMORE—The UMBC baseball team dropped the finale of a three-game series to Yale, 10-4, Monday afternoon at the Baseball Factory Field at UMBC. With the loss, the Retrievers drop to 0-3 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 3-0.

Junior Bryan Russo (Westbury, N.Y./Clarke) drove in his fourth run of the season, scoring fellow junior Rich Conlon (Vienna, Va./James Madison) in the first inning.

Yale scored seven in the top of the third, highlighted by three-run home runs by Trey Rallis and Charlie Neil.

HIGH POINT COMPLETES SERIES SWEEP
WITH 15-4 WIN OVER TOWSON

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Senior catcher Kyle Mahoney had four hits and drove in five runs as High Point University (7-2) broke open a close game with a seven-run sixth inning and handed Towson University (1-10) a 15-4 loss as the Panthers completed a three-game sweep over the Tigers at Williard Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers extended their winning streak to six games in a row while handing the Tigers their ninth consecutive loss.

BALTIMORE—The UMBC baseball team dropped its first two games of the 2010 season, falling to Yale 7-3 and 11-3, Sunday at the Baseball Factory Field at UMBC.

In the second game, junior Bryan Russo (Westbury, N.Y./Clarke) hit a two-run bomb to left field in the bottom of the first inning after the Bulldogs scored one in the top of the inning.

The Bulldogs added six in the fourth and four in the fifth with Andy Megee and Trygg Larsson-Danforth driving in three runs each.

IN SERIES OPENER, 13-0

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Senior righthander Jamie Serber threw seven shutout innings as High Point University (5-2) handed Towson University (1-8) a 10-0 loss in the opening game of their three-game weekend series at Williard Stadium on Friday afternoon. While the Panthers won their fourth game in a row, the Tigers lost their seventh consecutive contest.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior righthanders Blair Delean and Brett Harman combined with senior righthander Dan Gentzler to pitch a seven-hitter as the University of Maryland (2-6) handed Towson University (1-7) a 4-2 loss at cold and rainy Shipley Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Delean allowed only two runs on six hits in 6.1 innings of work. He did not walk a batter and struck out eight. Harman retired all five hitters he faced in 1.2 innings of relief. Gentzler came on to pitch the ninth inning and earned the save.

Maryland Futures Baseball Team Finishes 5-0 in MCBT

Plainfield, Illinois) The first ever Maryland Futures baseball team sponsored by the Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches (MSABC), the state high school baseball coaches association, rallied from a four-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning of its final game to slip past Illinois 9-8 on Saturday afternoon in the team's final game of the Midwest Classic Baseball Tournament (MCBT). Earlier in the day Maryland knocked off previously unbeaten Indiana 9-3. The Maryland Futures is made up of 18 of the top rising high school seniors in Maryland as selected by the MSABC.

The Maryland Futures are sponsored by the Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches (MSABC), the state high school baseball coaches association. The team, playing in the MCBT for the first time, is made up of 18 of the top rising senior baseball players from high schools around the state of Maryland.
