BALTIMORE—Junior attack Erika Braerman (Fallston, Md./Fallston) scored a career-best seven points to lead the UMBC women’s lacrosse team (4-3) to an 11-6 victory over former Northeast Conference rival Monmouth (0-4) Wednesday afternoon at UMBC Stadium.

Braerman’s seven points came on five goals and two assists, giving her career highs in goals (16) and points (27) through just seven games this season.

ARLINGTON, Va.—The UMBC baseball team rallied down three in the eighth inning, but a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth allowed George Washington to down the Retrievers, 9-7, in Arlington, Va. on Tuesday afternoon.

Down 7-4 going into the eighth, UMBC (0-4) sophomore Justin Lamborn (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnett Valley) walked before a fellow sophomore Michael Pesci (Parsippany, N.J./DePaul Catholic) single. Freshman Aaron Brill (Palm Beach, Fla./John I. Leonard) walked to load the bases and junior Casey Medairy (Elkridge, Md./Howard) walked to score Lamborn.

BALTIMORE—The UMBC baseball team dropped the finale of a three-game series to Yale, 10-4, Monday afternoon at the Baseball Factory Field at UMBC. With the loss, the Retrievers drop to 0-3 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 3-0.

Junior Bryan Russo (Westbury, N.Y./Clarke) drove in his fourth run of the season, scoring fellow junior Rich Conlon (Vienna, Va./James Madison) in the first inning.

Yale scored seven in the top of the third, highlighted by three-run home runs by Trey Rallis and Charlie Neil.

BALTIMORE—The UMBC baseball team dropped its first two games of the 2010 season, falling to Yale 7-3 and 11-3, Sunday at the Baseball Factory Field at UMBC.

In the second game, junior Bryan Russo (Westbury, N.Y./Clarke) hit a two-run bomb to left field in the bottom of the first inning after the Bulldogs scored one in the top of the inning.

The Bulldogs added six in the fourth and four in the fifth with Andy Megee and Trygg Larsson-Danforth driving in three runs each.

UMBC’s Carlee Cassidy Earns America East All-Conference, All-Academic Honors

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.—UMBC senior guard Carlee Cassidy (Syracuse,
N.Y./Westhill) was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team
and All-Academic Team, the league announced Thursday at the annual awards
reception on the University of Hartford campus.

Cassidy becomes the first Retriever ever to earn all-conference honors
three times during UMBC’s seven years in the America East, as she was
tabbed to the first team in 2008 and the second team in 2009.

TOWSON, Md. - Sophomore Troy Franklin (Mt. Carmel H.S./Baltimore, Md.) has been named Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball Co-Player of the Week for his role in Towson's league wins over William & Mary and Delaware last week.

Franklin scored a career high 27 points as the Tigers upset William & Mary 83-77 in Williamsburg. Thirteen of his game high 27 points were scored in the final seven minutes of the contest. He then scored 14 points to help the Tigers close out the regular season with an 81-66 win over Delaware.

Coppin State holds off UMBC in home debut

Coppin State came into their home debut at the PEC on a five-game losing streak. Errant free throw shooting late nearly costed the Lady Eagles. But a shot from UMBC’s Katie Brooks caromed off the rim at the buzzer, enabling Coppin State to hold on to a 55-54 victory over the Retrievers on Saturday afternoon.

Coppin State knocks down UMBC

In the battle of teams with a lot of youth on both sides, Coppin State and UMBC came into the RAC Arena with something to prove this Tuesday night in front of an audience in Catonsville as well as those watching on MASN. The Eagles showed their toughness down the stretch to emerge 77-66 winners over the Retrievers. Coppin State (4-1) is off to their best start since the 1976-77 season when they competed in the NAIA.

UMBC stomps Lady Hawks

The UMES Lady Hawks started well on both sides of the ball. However, when the UMBC Retrievers woke up and got things going, there was nothing UMES could do to stop them. UMBC did what they wanted offensively in destroying the Lady Hawks 102-65 at the RAC on Sunday afternoon.

What Morgan State head coach Todd Bozeman said to his Bears at the half must’ve done the trick. Because down 42-24, the Bears scored 19 consecutive points in the second half to help turn the game around in a 72-57 victory over the UMBC Retrievers at the RAC this afternoon.
