Morgan football gives away game to Hampton
By Keith Henry

"It's tough. We contributed to our loss. We continue to contribute to our demise. Throw an interception with 13 seconds left, they run it back for a touchdown. We get on the goal line. Clearly can run in with the ball and pitched the ball behind after the play; Unheard of. Everything that they got, we gave them."

The Maryland Terrapins had everything to play for: the final home game for 30 seniors and the chance to set up a game next week against Boston College that would send the Terps to the ACC Championship game. Instead, Florida State arrived in College Park and crashed the party.

The Terrapin defense took a lot of heat for their terrible showing against Virginia Tech last Thursday. They seem to have responded well to the criticism as they looked very strong in Maryland’s 17-15 victory over #16 North Carolina.
The suspension of senior defensive lineman Rick Costa did not hurt the defense’s performance.
“The team didn’t see it as a distraction,” said senior linebacker Moise Fokou.

The Morgan State Bears didn’t look like the same team out there at Hughes Stadium on Saturday night. The South Carolina State Bulldogs shut down running back Devan James and shut out the Morgan State Bears 32-0.

South Carolina State clinched their first outright MEAC championship since 1994 and an NCAA playoff berth. The last time the Bulldogs appeared in the NCAA I-AA playoffs was in 1982. That time, they shut out Furman 17-0 in the first round and lost to Louisiana Tech 38-3 in the semifinals.

Darren Evans ran for a school-record 253 yards and a touchdown as the Virginia Tech Hokies dominated both lines of scrimmage en route to a 23-13 victory on Thursday night over the No. 23 Maryland Terrapins.

While his 2-year-old son slept peacefully in his grandfather’s arms, Evans repeatedly gashed the Terps defense. Maryland had not surrendered a run of longer than 24 yards all season; Evans broke off runs of 50, 45 and 29.

Very few people would have thought that Maryland would be sitting atop the Atlantic Coast Conference (3-1, Atlantic Div.) after an embarrassing 31-0 defeat at the hands of the Virginia Cavaliers (3-2 Coastal Div., 5-4) on Oct. 6. However, the naysayers did not count on Maryland bouncing back by beating Wake Forest (3-2 Atlantic, 5-3) and N.C State (0-4 Atlantic, 2-6) at home to put their overall record at 6-2.

The Tigers looked as though they would go into the second half with some momentum. However, the second half for the Tigers has been a source of trouble and worries and it was no different at Johnny Unitas Stadium today.

In their previous losses, the Tigers were outscored 17-0 by Navy, 24-7 by #4 Richmond, 24-0 by Coastal Carolina and 21-0 by Northeastern.

This time, it was #16 William & Mary that took advantage by outscoring the Tigers 27-0 in the second half of the Tribe’s 34-14 bludgeoning of Towson.

Homecoming at Morgan State in the driving rain and wind. Some say its good football weather to play the defending MEAC Champion Delaware State Hornets. The special teams and defensive units of the Morgan State Bears stepped up to the plate big time and led to a huge 20-3 victory over the Hornets at Hughes Stadium.

This win pushes Morgan State (5-3, 3-1 MEAC) closer to their goal and dream of winning the MEAC title.
