All season long the Baltimore locals questioned whether the Edmonson Red Storm belonged in the conversation with the elite teams of the city and each week they proved that they did. Yesterday was no different, as the Red Storm withstood a furious rally from a heavy hearted Justin Jackson to hold on to a 66-62 victory. The win moves Edmonson into Saturdays rematch against City College, who handed the Red Storm one of their two losses on the season, in the regional final of the MPSSAA tournament. The winner of that contest moves onto the 2A state semifinals at the Comcast Center on March 12th.

The Edmonson Red Storm showed that five guys are still better than one superstar, but just barely. Josh Selby, the star guard for the Lake Clifton Lakers, almost single handedly carried his team to it's 3rd consecutive City championship, but his 3 point attempt at the buzzer rolled out and the Red Storm held on for the 58-56 victory in overtime to capture their first ever city title. Selby finished with 45 points and 7 rebounds, but also committed 7 turnovers.

Still trying to get over all the unbelievable action from last night's games, easily the best night of local hoops I've seen in a long, long time. In today's action I was only able to catch the last 4 games so that's all you're going to get here. Here goes!

Douglass 54 Lansdowne 44

Lansdowne led pretty much the whole game until they hit a 7 minute scoreless streak to start the 4th quarter and Douglass scored more points in the 4th quarter(23) than they did in the entire 1st half(14), in their 10 point victory.

Unfortunately I was not able to attend day 1 at the 14th Annual Basketball Academy played at Morgan State where Mervo defeated Randallstown, Dunbar beat Woodlawn and parkville edged Douglass, but I was lucky enough to be there for day 2, and thank god for that! Here is a recap of todays games at Morgan.

Digital Harbor 49 Milford Mill 47

In a matchup of unbeatens in Baltimore City action, City College junior guard Nick Faust had a relative off night shooting, but when the game was on the line he came through in the clutch. Faust scored 8 of his 19 points in the 4th quarter, including a huge three pointer and four consecutive foul shots in the closing seconds to lead the Knights to a 71-68 victory over an Edmonson team that just wouldn't go away.

Jordan Latham led City with 20 points and 8 rebounds, Michael Cheatham added 19 pts. and Charles Tapper had a productive game off the bench with 10 pts. and 9 rebounds.

The tipoff to the Ray Mullis Classic at Cardinal Gibbons High School was a matchup between the upstart, and #14 ranked, Glenelg Country and the old school, #9 Digital Harbor. The young, but very talented, Dragons of Glenelg started off strong thanks to the inside play of sophomore Isaiah Miles and led the Rams by 5 at the half. But senior Davon Usher overcame his slow 1st half (5ts) to light it up in the 2nd half for 18 points, and lead the Rams to a come from behind 63-54 victory.

On Monday Night, the 2nd Annual Crab Bowl took place on a frosty cold night at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium. Once again it was a great display of the best football players in the state of Maryland, with the squad from DC holding to a 24-21 victory over Baltimore, taking a 2-0 series lead. After watching the game and evaluating the tape, I am going to take a look at some of the players that turned in impressive performances.
